About the Department

The Department of Commerce was established in 1994, followed by the introduction of Banking and Insurance in 2015 and Information Technology in 2025. The department aims to create an enabling environment and robust infrastructure for the accelerated growth of local, national, and international trade.

The department is supported by a committed team of 13 qualified faculty members who focus on enriching students’ skills based on their individual strengths. It strives to prepare students for professional excellence and encourages them to pursue professional examinations such as CA, ICWAI, and ACS.

To support academic excellence, the Sulthan Chand Dropadevi Memorial Financial Aid is awarded to three meritorious students. A sum of Rs.12,000, generated as interest from an endowment fund of Rs.2,75,000, is distributed once every six months each year.

  • The Department of Commerce inaugurated the Commerce Association on 17 July 2026 at UVS Hall, focusing on academic excellence, leadership, and professional development. The programme featured the introduction of office bearers and an inspiring address by the Chief Guest, Dr. G. Ravindran, Associate professor, P.G and Department of Commerce, Government Arts College (Autonomous), Coimbatore

  • The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. K M Kumaraguru, Head of the Commerce Department. Principal, Dr. H Vasudevan feliciatate the program. The keynote speaker, Dr. J Barathi, Department of Tamil, NKR Govt Arts College for Women, Namakkal.held on 09.7.2025 at U.V.S HALL
  • Anti - Drug Club in association with Department of Commerce organized Seminar on Empowering Young Minds against Drug Abuse Silver Jubilee Hall on 11.07.2025 at 10:00am Resource person was Dr.Pranesh Ram Ranganathan,Consultant Neuro psychiatrist, Gobi Neuro mind care ,Gobi.
  • Department of Commerce organized Workshop on Tally Prime with GST 6.0 in Silver Jubilee Hall on 11.07.2025 at 1:30 p.m. Resource person was Jc B. Rajasekar, Coach, Trainer, Consultant, C Cube - Technology, Erode.
  • Anti - Drug Committee in association with Department of Commerce organized Guest Lecture on, “Building your path to Success in Drug-Free Journey” on 05.08.2025 at 10:00 am. Guest Speaker Dr. P. Guru, Director (i/c) & Associate Professor, Centre for Institution Industry Interaction (CIII) and Department of Management Studies, Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology (Deemed to be University).
  • World Commerce Day was celebrated on 4th August 2025 at UVS Hall. Mr. V.P.S. Radhakrishnan, Managing Director of Angel Starch & Food Pvt. Ltd., Erode, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
  • The Department of Commerce organized a Guest Lecture on 06.08.2025 on the topic “Should Plastic be Completely Banned?” The resource person for the session was Dr. Mohankumar, M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D., NSS Unit-II Officer and Associate Professor of Zoology, Chikkanna Government Arts College, Tirupur
  • The Career Guidance Programme on “Global Opportunities through Commerce Professional Courses” was successfully organized by the Department of Commerce on 8th September 2025 in UVS Hall. The resource person for the session was Mr. Arun Arumugam, Associate General Manager, Indian Institute of Commerce, Lakshya.
  • The NCC, YRC, NSS, and RRC, in association with the Department of Commerce, organized the distribution of Anti-Drug Awareness pamphlets on 17th September 2025. The students of our department, along with the faculty members, visited the Erode Bus Stand to distribute the pamphlets to the public and create awareness about the harmful effects of drug usage.
  • The Intrafesi 2K25 program, aimed at developing the students' untapped skills, was conducted on 19th August 2025 in U.V.S. Hall. The event commenced with a prayer song, followed by various intra-departmental competitions such as Debate, Battle of the Brain (Quiz), Solo Dance, Cooking without Fire, Pencil Sketching, Wealth out of Waste, Mehandi, Short Film, and Reels Making.
  • A Career Orientation Programme on the Banking and Insurance Sector was organized on 19.12.2025 for the final-year students of the Department of Commerce. The programme aimed to create awareness about career opportunities and skill requirements in the banking and insurance industries.
  • A Guest Lecture titled “Role of Business in Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and Ensuring Food Security” was organized on 20th December 2025 at UVS Hall for the students of the Department of Commerce. The lecture emphasized the responsibility of businesses in achieving sustainable development and food security.
  • The NCC, YRC, NSS, and RRC, in association with the Department of Commerce, organized a Walkathon Awareness Programme on the Impact of Drug Abuse on 29.12.2025. The programme was conducted at Kunnathur Panchayat Union, Tiruppur District, with active participation from students and faculty members to create public awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
  • The Anti-Drug Club, in association with the Department of Commerce, organized a Street Theatre Programme on the Impact of Drug Abuse on 29.12.2025. The objective of the programme was to educate students and the general public about the adverse effects of drug addiction through effective visual communication.
  • A Skill Enhancement Programme was successfully organized for the first-year students (I B.Com & I B.Com – IT) by the Department of Commerce. The programme aimed to equip students with essential practical skills and enhance their employability. The training was conducted by Mr. G. Shanmuga Sekar, HR Trainer, GENZEE Training & Consultancy, Erode.

  • Department Orientation Program conducted on 01-07-2024, by Dr.K.M.Kumaraguru, Associate Professor and Head, Department of commerce, KASC.
  • Inauguration of Association Activities on 23-07-2024 by Dr.P.Chellasamy, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Commerce, Coimbatore.
  • Program on “Cracking Service Commission Exam” on 23-07-2024 by Ms.S.Pradeepa, Junior Cooperative Auditor, Chennai.
  • Bridge Course was organized from 08.07.2024 to 09.07.2024. The lectures were given by Dr.A.Chithambaram, Mr.S.Praveen, Ms.A.Deepa, Ms.A.J.Mercy Ba Daffni.
  • Anti - Drug Awareness Pledge was taken by the Students on 12-08-2024 in their Respective Classrooms and also taken the E-Pledge using Online.
  • The II Year and III Year Students of B.Com and B.Com(B&I) visited the Erode Book Festival on 13-08-2024.
  • E-Quiz on the title, Independence day - 2024 theme, Viksit Bharat (Developed India) was conducted for the students on 15-08-2024.
  • Anti-Drug Awareness Drawing Competition was organised on 19-08-2024 and the winners were awarded with the Certificate and Prizes.
  • Dr.L.Chandra Mohan, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Sri Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Coimbatore conducted a Faculty Exchange Programme from 27-08-2024 to 29-08-2024 for II year B.Com Students.
  • Guest Lecture on Banking Innovation and Job Opportunities was conducted on 23-08-2024 and the Resource Person was Dr.A.Balakrishnan, Professor in Department of Banking Technology, Pondicherry University. Faculty Exchange Programme from 27-08-2024 to 29-08-2024 for II year B.Com Students.
  • An Intra Departmental competition, INTRAFESI 2K24 was conducted on 30.08.2024 in U. V. Swaminatha Iyer Arangam. The various competitions were conducted for the students.
  • Extension Activity on Tree Plantation and Rain Water Harvesting was conducted on 31-08-2024 at Kolathupalayam Village, Vellode.
  • Business Communication Skills Workshop was conducted for the I Year B.Com and B.Com(B&I) students from 11-09-2024 to 12-09-2024 by Mr.J.Thangavel Raj, Soft Skills Trainer.
  • Workshop on “Securities Market” was conducted for the Final Year Students from 23-09- 2024 to 24-09-2024 by Dr.P.Karthika, Associate Professor, The College of Business and Economics, Ethiopia.
  • The Field Visit has been arranged for the Second Year Students on 24-09-2024, at Podaran Foods India Pvt. Ltd., Nathakadaiyur. The Students visited the company and gained knowledge about their working processes.
  • Anti-Drug Committee in Association with Department of Commerce conducted a awareness program on Distribution of Anti – Drug Awareness Pamphlets at P.S. Park, Erode on 05-10-2024
  • Seminar on "Rights and Responsibilities of Citizens" by Mrs. Poongodi Vijayakumar, B.A., B.L., Advocate, Erode District Court conducted on 10-12-2024
  • Soft Skills Training Program on "Career Development" was conducted on 11-12-2024 & 12-12-2024 for II year Students and Mr.A.Thirunavukkarasu, Zone Trainer, JCI India trained the Students
  • The Extension Activity on Anti Drug Awareness Walkathon was conducted from Chennimalai Kumaran Statue to Bus Stand on 31-12-2024.
  • The Extension Activity on Distribution of Pamphlet on Pollution Control for Public was conducted at Chennimalai Bus Stand on 31-12-2024.
  • The Students of our Department participated in the Kongu Cultural Fest 2K25 on 25-01-2025
  • Constitution Day Celebration was held on 17.02.2025 The Guest Speaker, Bhavani B Mohan, Senior Advocate (Criminal Trial), spoke about The Fundamental Rights, and Fundamental Duties for every citizens of India.
  • “KASCO 2K25” a grand shopping fest was conducted on 20.02.2025 & 21.02.2025 at Open Auditorium by all students of Commerce and Commerce (CA). It was a platform for students to Gear up as Entrepreneurs in future.
  • Guest Lecture on Investment Banking Sector was conducted for the Final Year Students by Mr.K.Dinesh Kumar from Imarticus, Coimbatore on 27-02-2025.
  • The Department of Commerce organized the Valedictory Function on March 11, 2025. Dr.Nancy Komahan served as the Guest Speaker and delivered the Special Address.

  • Orientation Program was conducted on 17.07.2023 and 18.07.2023 at Ramunajan Hall, Science Block. The aim of the program was “Focus for Future” to the First Year Student. Mr. G Kumaraguru, the chief trainer and Mr.G.Shanmugasekar, Training Manager and Coach were the Resource Person of the Program.
  • Career Counselling Programme was conducted on 19.07.2023. Mr. C A Vignesh Kumar E, Salem was the resource person.
  • The students from final year went to Erode Book Festival on 11.08.2023. The Highlight of the program is to develop Reading and Comprehension Skills.
  • An Intra Departmental competition, INTRAFESI'23 was conducted on 23.09.2023 in U. V. Swaminatha Iyer Arangam. The various competitions were conducted to the students.

  • Student Induction Program entitled Know Your Department was conducted on 29.07.2022 at PG Seminar Hall. The aim of the program was to introduce the department and departmental activities to the First Year Students. Dr.K.M.Kumaraguru, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Commerce, was the resource person.
  • The Department of Commerce began its activities with the Orientation Programme on 11.8.22 for the First Year students of GEN ZEE TRAINING AND CONSULTING BY MR.G.kumaraguru and Shanmugasekar.
  • The department of commerce has organized the international literacy day: E-QUIZ (8.9.2022 and 9.9.2022) two days.
  • A guest lecture on goods service tax Program was conducted on 14.9.2022 and the Resource Person J.VIJAYASHANKAR MCA., MBA., M.E., B.Ed.
  • The Final Year students of B.Com and B.Com (Banking and Insurance) were taken to Industrial Visit to KSIC Silk Weaving Factory at Mysore from 22.09.2022 to 23.09.2022
  • A Personality Development Program was conducted on 20.01.2023, 21.01.2023 and 23.01.2023 at PG Seminar Hall for Second Year Students. The aim of the program was to develop their personality and carry out in the society. Mr. J. Thangavel, Raj Training Consultant, Corporate Trainer was the Resource Person.
  • Guest Lecture was conducted on 17.03.2023(AN) at PG Seminar Hall for Third Year Students. This program aimed to know about employment opportunities in Investment Banking and to enhance their skills. Mr. Maheswar - Senior Manager, Associate - Imarticus for Placement & Training was the Resource Person.
  • The Department of Commerce has organized a KASCO program for two days on 20.03.2023 & 21.03.2023. The aim of the program was to strengthen their skills in empathy, dedication, stress management, customer service and more.
